Giving a Hand Up: Holton Family Fund
Longtime Brevard residents, Doug and Kathleen Holton suffered the terrible loss every parent fears, when their son Christopher lost his life in a tragic accident. Even during their grief, they knew they wanted to honor his life by helping the lives of others.
After their U.S. Air Force careers, Doug and Kathleen engaged in the community in a variety of ways, including volunteering with a number of nonprofit organizations. Through their work, they realized their philanthropic approach aligned best with an integrative, hands-up service model and became deeply involved with Family Promise of Brevard.
Our passion and intention is to help address family homelessness from a variety of angles, including education and programs to empower parents who lack financial resources. While we miss Christopher every day, we’re inspired by the Family Promise of Brevard mission, team, and program, and galvanized by the connectivity and efficiency of the Community Foundation – we’re all in this together.
Through his service on the Family Promise of Brevard board, Doug learned about the Community Foundation for Brevard and its breadth of services. He and Kathleen then created the Holton Family Fund, which memorializes Christopher, aligns with their hand-up philosophy, and allows them the flexibility to make grants toward issues that matter most to them, and in ways they believe will offer the best long-term outcomes.
